Recently, fellow photographer Pat Ryan and I headed on a 2-day road trip through the Western region part of Wisconsin with the final destination being Winona, Minnesota. The first stop was Ripon for a bite to eat at Knuth Brewing Company and a couple of stops at Gents and Patina Vie. Then we headed to Princeton.
As we continued heading west we stopped in Mauston to stretch our legs, then to La Crosse. As soon as we checked into the Charmant Hotel, we grabbed our cameras and hit the streets. We walked across the La Crosse Westbound Bridge which spans 2.5 miles. After this walk, it was time for food. Our evening concluded with dinner at the The Crow and brief walk before heading back to the hotel.
The next day we headed 30-miles west to Winona, Minnesota to see what downtown had to offer. The trip ended with a stop to Garvin Heights Park overlooking the Mississippi River. One thing I found interesting were the people who wanted to be photographed.

About Frank Juárez’s The Joy of Traveling
Since 2021, I have been publishing posts about my travels. As an art educator, I find it difficult to travel for long periods during the school year. However, when I see small opportunities to get in the car or hop on a plane, even if it is for a couple of days, I’ll pack my bag. Photography has been my way of seeing the world, trying new experiences, making photos that hopefully encourage others to travel, and, frankly, putting myself in a different mindset to continue to be inspired by the places I visit and the people I meet along the way. Each post includes recommendations of places to eat, drink, stay, and visit.
